Biking

Bike on or off the Ranch

Black Butte Ranch has 18 miles of paved trails, giving guests boundless opportunities to survey the Ranch by bike. The Black Butte Ranch Bike Path Map contains a map of the trail system, along with suggested rides for your enjoyment. Glaze Meadow Rental Shop has a new Raleigh fleet consisting of Venture hybrid (or comfort) bikes, Talus mountain bikes and Revenio road bikes. Wheel Fun bikes, offered through Lakeside Activity Center, are also available. These unique bikes, seating one to six people, are a fun way for families to explore the Ranch together.

Off the Ranch, biking opportunities are endless. Sisters Country is one of the premier mountain biking regions in the state, and is a silver-level bicycle-friendly community, as designated by the League of American Bicyclists. Sisters is home to three Scenic Bikeways: McKenzie Pass, Metolius Loops and Sisters to Smith Rock State Park. The best known and most popular trails include the Peterson Ridge Trail System, the Suttle Tie Trail between Black Butte Ranch and Camp Sherman and the nearby McKenzie River Trail, which is widely regarded as one of the great epic bike trails in North America. For details on great rides and more, visit the cycling page at Sisters Country.

The Sisters Trail Alliance maintains trails around Sisters Country, along with the US Forest Service, the City of Sisters, Sisters Chamber of Commerce, Sisters School District and Sisters Parks and Recreation District. Some of the routes are near the Ranch, and plans are in place for a paved bike path from Sisters to Suttle Lake. Check trail options at the Sisters Community Trail Maps page and the Popular Trails page.

Downhill Mountain Bike Tour

The Paulina Plunge Downhill/Waterfall Mountain Bike Tour will guide you to the scenic waterfalls and slides of Paulina Creek. Riding the two natural water slides will be the highlight of your vacation. The tour consists of four 1.5 mile biking segments to each waterfall stop. While coasting down the smooth dirt forest trail, you will be close to the shimmering waterfalls of the stream. The tour includes visits to up to six pristine waterfalls, ranging in height from 10 to 40 feet, as well as two safe natural watersides where you may explore and play. Two short energetic nature hikes, at a distance of 1/2 mile each, will be required to reach the enchanting waterfalls and slides below. This safe, fun family excursion is attractive for all active age groups, ages 4 & up; bike and helmet included. Call 800-296-0562 or visit the Paulina Plunge website.
