Catch and Release Fly Fishing at Black Butte Ranch
Located in a scenic locations on the Ranch, Phalarope Lake is a splendid place to learn to fly fish. This is the only lake on the Ranch reserved for fly fishing (we let the wildlife enjoy the others). Barbless hooks and “catch and release” procedures are required. An Oregon fishing license is also needed, available online at Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife.

FREE Casting Clinic & Phalarope Lake Fishing Orientation
Casting a fly to a waiting trout is one of the most exciting aspects of fly fishing. In this free 1-hr. hands-on clinic, have fun learning all the basics of fly casting. After the casting clinic, test drive your new skills on Phalarope Lake in a FREE lake-fishing orientation. Limited to 12 participants. Advance registration required. Sign up at Lakeside Activity Center. Saturdays from 10am -11am. Free Ages: 12+

Summer BBR Youth Fly Fishing Camp – An All-day Introduction to Fly Fishing
This summer, introduce your teenagers to fly fishing in this full day hands-on class. Our professional instructor will step each student through all the basics of fly fishing. BBR Legacy Fly Fishing – An all-day Fly Fishing class and Fishing Phalarope Lake Secrets
BBR guests and owners have a decades-long legacy of fly fishing Black Butte Lake. Here is your chance to get in on the action by learning the art of fly fishing (or brush up your existing fly fishing skills) with 1-on-1 hands-on instruction. In the afternoon, join your professional guide/instructor in learning the secrets of where and when to fish the Lake. $295 per person. Perfect for the whole family. Limited to 8 participants. Fishing Licenses
Students don’t actually go fishing during the free clinic, so a fishing license is not required for the class. If anyone is going fishing on the Lake or around Central Oregon after the clinic, then make sure you are properly licensed. An Oregon fishing license is needed, and can be obtained online at odfw.huntfishoregon.com/customer/catalog.
