How to Go Stargazing on Vacation

For a memorable experience, reserve your spot on an excursion with Wanderlust Tours. This Bend-based service has several different tours throughout the year that’ll have you taking in the beauty of the Oregon sky.

  • Moonlight & Starlight Snowshoe Tour: Running from November through March and March through April, your group will make its way through a snow-filled forest in the Cascade Mountains under the starry canopy.
  • Summer Starlight & Moonlight Canoe Tours: Let the stars and moon be your light as you paddle across a mountain lake in the Cascade Range. This tour is offered from June through October.
  • Starlight Cave Tour: Go on a two-hour exploration of caves in Bend before enjoying desserts and hot cocoa under the stars. Your guide will point out constellations, planets, and stars on this tour from October through November and April through May.
  • Bonfire on the Snow: For a unique winter experience, make your way through the snowy forest to a crackling bonfire under the stars. Offered November through March and March through April, this outing includes hot cocoa and desserts.

There are plenty of applications that help identify stars and constellations if you’re looking to do a bit of stargazing without leaving resort grounds. Sit around the bonfire with your loved ones as you gaze up at the stars while reminiscing on the day’s adventures.

Throughout the summer and early fall, we host stargazing and moon-gazing events in Big Meadow. Listen to stories about the stars as you search for constellations. More information about these events and how to reserve your spot can be found online.

Other great nearby locations for looking up at the stars include the Dee Wright Observatory and the Hopservatory at Worthy Brewing Co.
