Fall weather a boon for conditions at Black Butte Ranch

Fall weather a boon for conditions at Black Butte Ranch Mild weather has stretched the golf season and helped the maintenance staff prepare both golf courses for next season The seeds of great conditioning are almost always planted the fall before. So far the weather has cooperated with Black Butte Ranch Superintendent Jeff Knutzen and his staff, allowing the maintenance crew to get extra conditioning work in before the weather turns, setting up a graceful entrance into the offseason, and hopefully a quick start to next spring. If you haven’t been to Central Oregon recently, then you probably missed [...]

Coming in October: Black Butte Ranch’s fall rates are here again

Coming in October: Black Butte Ranch’s fall rates are here again Fall rates, late aerification, and end-of-season sales highlight October Black Butte Ranch’s golf season might be winding down, but it is hardly over. In fact, October brings average highs in the mid-60s and typically sunny skies, and the fall foliage is as its most vibrant — something you may notice as you play a round at Big Meadow or Glaze Meadow. Of course, The 2nd Annual Civil War Golf Tournament is just ahead on Oct. 7, but plenty of time remains to register. Another thing to look forward [...]

Another Oregon championship on its way to Black Butte Ranch

Another Oregon championship on its way to Black Butte Ranch Big Meadow, Glaze Meadow in great shape for 91st OGA Men’s Team Championship A visit from the Oregon Golf Association has become a bit of an annual ritual here at Black Butte Ranch. Just last year, Big Meadow was the site of the OGA’s Oregon Amateur Four-Ball Championship. But Black Black Butte Ranch offers a way for the two sides to come together in the spirit of a fun competition — The 2nd Annual Civil War Golf Tournament at Glaze Meadow. Scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 7, the golf tournament pits Duck fans against Beaver believers [...]

Final push of the season has courses in prime shape

Final push of the season has courses in prime shape Black Butte Ranch golf courses hitting peak condition at just the right time Warm, sunny August days are the stuff of dreams for Central Oregon golfers, and because of this there are few more important times on the calendar for a golf course superintendent. As the calendar turns to August, Big Meadow and Glaze Meadow are in ideal condition. The greens are firm and true. The emerald green fairways are inviting. And with the Homeowner Guest Invitational Golf Tournament coming up, Aug. 24-26, superintendent Jeff Knutzen and his course [...]

Black Butte Ranch golf courses enjoying the fruits of a relatively mild June

Big Meadow and Glaze Meadow firm and fast, while new-look maintenance crew continues to improve the courses Sometimes the warm, clear summer days can take a while to arrive in Central Oregon. Just ask Jeff Knutzen, who moved from Colorado this winter to take over as Black Butte Ranch’s superintendent. That’s not such a bad thing, especially if you’re job is to ensure that two championship golf courses are in prime condition during the peak season. And now that we’re in July, Central Oregon’s relatively mild spring is bearing fruit. “I’m still trying to get used to Oregon weather,” [...]
