Coming in October: Black Butte Ranch’s fall rates are here again

Fall rates, late aerification, and end-of-season sales highlight October

Black Butte Ranch’s golf season might be winding down, but it is hardly over. In fact, October brings average highs in the mid-60s and typically sunny skies, and the fall foliage is as its most vibrant — something you may notice as you play a round at Big Meadow or Glaze Meadow.

Of course, The 2nd Annual Civil War Golf Tournament is just ahead on Oct. 7, but plenty of time remains to register.

Another thing to look forward to in October? Fall rates.

The golf season may be in its last few weeks, but with shoulder season rates that is not such a bad thing. Beginning on Monday, Oct. 1, Black Butte Ranch will drop to its lowest rates of the season: $54 during primetime, $49 after 1 p.m., and just $29 for nine holes after noon. And this time of year, afternoons really tend to be prime time.

In addition, Black Butte Ranch’s fall lodging package begins in October. Stay in a Black Butte Ranch vacation rental, and purchase a two-round golf voucher valid at either course for just $90 per card, a rate that includes cart and range balls.

Of course, a lower rate would hardly be a deal for golfers if the conditions did not hold up. With one of the latest aerification schedules in Central Oregon — aerification will begin at Big Meadow on Oct. 15 and Glaze Meadow on Oct. 22 — Black Butte Ranch’s putting surfaces should remain pristine well into the month.

Don’t give up on the golf season just yet!

Here’s what else is on tap in October:

  • Space remains for The 2nd Annual Civil War Golf Tournament, which is scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 7. Duck fans square off against Beaver believers in a blast of a one-day event. The field is limited to the first 20 two-player teams to sign up to represent the Ducks and 20 more two-player teams that will represent Oregon State. Flighted by handicap, each Beaver team will face off against a Duck team for 18 holes of team match play. The winner of each match receives a point — Ryder Cup style — and the winner is determined by which school’s representatives tally the most points by day’s end. To play in the Civil War you can register online, or for more information or to register, contact Tobias Colvin, golf sales manager, at 541-595-1292 or tcolvin@blackbutteranch.com.
  • In October, Black Butte Ranch will embark on a $1.3 million project to replace Big Meadow’s irrigation system, including replacement of the main lines, lateral lines, and sprinkler heads throughout the entire course. The project will continue until the weather no longer permits work, then completed in spring 2019, after the turf thaws from winter. Big Meadow will remain open through the project and as weather permits, but the hours will be limited. From Monday through Thursday — when the bulk of work will be performed — tee times on Big Meadow will be limited to 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. However, Friday through Sunday the course will operate under a normal schedule. Glaze Meadow will remain open under normal hours until weather no longer permits play — which typically happens in early November.
  • The end of the golf season makes now a great time to visit both golf shops at Black Butte Ranch. Special year-end pricing on apparel and equipment, including some of the latest 2018 offerings from the game’s best-known names, will not be hard to find. Stock up before the beginning of the 2019 golf season, or get your holiday shopping done early.
  • Private and group lessons will get you back on your game before the season ends. Black Butte Ranch’s staff of PGA professionals, including PGA Director of Instruction George Mack Jr., Director of Golf Jeff Fought, Head Professional Tom Baker, and assistant professional Dan McCleery will be tuning up golfers through the month.
