After months of typically on-again, off-again Central Oregon weather, the warm, sunny weather that has made Black Butte Ranch a favorite for generations of golfers is finally here. And just in time for May, when things really start getting heated up at Black Butte Ranch.

Early spring golfers have already gotten their first taste of the season at Big Meadow and Glaze Meadow, both of which have come out of winter in fantastic shape. Big Meadow is open throughout the month. And after golfers got a sneak preview over the last weekend of April, Glaze Meadow is scheduled to reopen for the season on Friday, May 11.

Both courses rounding into peak-season shape is but one highlight during what should be another bustling May here at The Ranch. From great rates, to free Mother’s Day golf for moms, to Black Butte Ranch’s annual Memorial Day Extravaganza, the month ahead is always among the best time for a visit.

“May is really when the golf season gets going,” said Jeff Fought, Black Butte Ranch’s director of golf. “We love it. The courses green up, golfers return, and everybody starts to get excited for the season.”

Also, follow along with Jeff as he tours Ireland on a golf trip to Ireland. The Black Butte Ranch Blog will update Jeff’s adventures regularly beginning later this week. As a refresher, here is a look at some of the fun he had in Scotland two years ago.

A look at what else Black Butte Ranch has on tap in May:

  • As you ready for the season, spring is the perfect time to take stock of equipment and gear and decide what has at least another season of use in it and what needs to be replaced. Scheduled for May 26 and 27, Black Butte Ranch’s annual Memorial Day Extravaganza — which includes the Big Meadow Demo Day & Tent Sale — offers a once-a-year chance to see all the latest and greatest in one place. Manufacturers such as Ping, TaylorMade, Cobra, and Titleist will all be stationed on the Big Meadow driving range on Saturday, May 26, for any and all to come and test out each company’s latest and greatest equipment. Apparel companies will also be on hand to show off their wares. Much of the clubs, balls, and Black Butte Ranch logo apparel that has been stocking the golf shop shelves at Big Meadow and Glaze Meadow will be offered at well below retail, too. The demo day will be held on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The tent sale will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day. Everyone is welcome.

  • Mothers play free at Black Butte Ranch on Mother’s Day, which falls on Sunday, May 13. Mothers are only asked to call ahead and make a tee time. Pair the round with a special brunch at the Lodge Restaurant to make Mother’s Day even better.

  • Black Butte Ranch is teeing off a new lesson program in May. Dubbed “Play Like in Your Dreams,” the two-day golf school includes at least 10 hours of instruction led by our staff of PGA professionals, and is designed to improve every facet of your game. The first of nine two-day schools scheduled this summer is scheduled for May 19-20. In addition to Play Like in Your Dreams, Black Butte Ranch will offer the first 100 Yards In clinic (May 26-27) of the season. This popular series is designed to improve the shorter shots and offer the quickest way to shoot better scores.

  • Our spring rates make May one of the best times of the season to play. Through May 17, a round at either course is just $54 in prime time, $49 after 1 p.m., and nine holes after noon are just $29. Black Butte Ranch moves to its shoulder rates on May 18, when a round at either course is $69 in prime time, $59 after 1 p.m., $44 after 3 p.m. and nine holes after noon are just $39.

  • Our couples spring stay-and-play package will continue through May 23. The package starts at $99 per guest, per night, and one round of golf is included with each night stayed.
