The leaves are starting to fall and before we know it so will the snow. When the snow covers central Oregon, it becomes a different world. The snow produces trails, dusts the ponderosa pines, and creates a white world for us to get out and explore. Just because the snow is covering everything does not mean we are stuck indoors. You can snowshoe, cross-country ski, or jump into the plush pile of snow. At Black Butte Ranch we encourage you to get outside this winter and have fun in the snow. We offer all the amenities to make sure that after your adventure you have a place to warm up and rest at your Black Butte lodging.
Winter Wonderland
There’s excellent snow-filled recreation to enjoy both on and off the Ranch. At the Ranch, you can enjoy snowshoeing and cross-country skiing at the Big Meadow or Glaze Meadow golf course. Glide along the groomed trails with at least six inches of snow. Our 17 miles of paved trails are another great option to explore. Cross-country ski and snowshoe rentals are available at the Glaze Meadow Rental Shop.
We also encourage family snowball fights and fort building. Explore the ranch and find the perfect spot to build your igloo and take in the surrounding beauty.
HooDoo Skiing
Black Butte Ranch is the official lodging partner for HooDoo Ski Area. The family-friendly ski area is located 13 miles west of the Ranch. Hoodoo features 15.8 kilometers of groomed trails for cross-country skiing and skating and also features the Autobahn Tubing Park. Hoodoo offers excellent snow conditions for all experience levels. Whether you want to stay on the bunny hill or take on the 1,035 feet of vertical drop, the whole family will have an excellent time.
Sno Parks!
Santiam Sno Park and Ray Benson Sno Park are winter recreational spots. They offer a variety of trails for snowmobilers, cross-country skiers, and snowshoers. All parks require sno park permits, available at Black Butte Ranch, Hoodoo, and other Sisters locations.
