The 4th of July is no doubt a lively time at Black Butte Ranch, filled with sunshine and fun. And the list of events for the 4th of July are almost endless.

Among the highlights every year is Black Butte Ranch’s annual demo day and sidewalk sale — the headlining golf event in what should be a spectacular July at Black Butte Ranch. The event, which will actually be held on Saturday, July 2, and Sunday, July 3, is more intimate than Black Butte Ranch’s Memorial Day Weekend Demo Days & Tent Sale, but still offers a fresh look at new equipment and significant discounts on gear.

The demo day will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, July 2, at Big Meadow, with TaylorMade and adidas taking center stage.

“I think there are some advantages to a smaller demo day,” says Jeff Fought, director of golf at Black Butte Ranch. “It really allows golfers to focus in on a particular manufacturer and put its entire line of new equipment to the test.”

The sidewalk sale — which features discounts of between 30 percent and 70 percent off merchandise, logo wear, clubs, shoes and accessories — will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on  Saturday and 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. on Sunday.

Everyone is welcome and admission is free.

MORE IN JULY

  • Black Butte Ranch will host its three-day ladies-only golf school through the month (dates July 5-7, July 12-14, July 19-21, and July 26-28). Designed for women of all abilities, the clinic is designed to be productive sessions that are non-intimidating no matter the skill level.

  • Black Butte Ranch pro Emily Anderson has designed a Get Golf Comfortable program for Black Butte Ranch property owners and their guests who may be a bit intimidated by golf. Held at 4 p.m. on Tuesdays through the summer (the final two Tuesdays of each month are reserved for women only), the free, casual gatherings are held at Glaze Meadow to answer any golf questions and general etiquette. Email Emily at eanderson@blackbutteranch.com or just show up!

  • The two-day, 100-Yards-and-In Clinic (July 2-3, July 9-10, July 16-17, July 23-24, and July 30-31) continue through July. The clinic focuses solely on the short game, which is  perhaps the quickest way way to shave strokes.

  • Every Thursday through the summer, Glaze Meadow’s practice putting green will host the Junior Putting Challenge. The fun events begin at 12:30 p.m. and include divisions for youngsters age 6 to 9-years-old (nine holes), 10-14 years old (18 holes) and 15-17 years old (18 holes). Cost is just $5 and includes golf balls and an ice cream sandwich. Coolest of all is that after the event families of four (two adults and two children age 17 or younger) can play Glaze Meadow for $60. To sign up, call 541-595-1500 or stop by the Big Meadow golf shop.

  • Also for junior golfers, our popular three-day junior golf camps (July 5-7, July 11-13, July 18-20, and July 25-27) are a great place for kids to sharpen their skills. The Ranch tailors instruction to the age and abilities of each student, with a 1½-hour program for kids age 6 to 9 and a 2½-hour program for kids age 10 to 17. Each class size is limited to 15 golfers, which allows for plenty of attention from Black Butte Ranch’s staff of golf professionals.
