A run of good weather is great news for Black Butte Ranch golfers

Mild fall weather this time of year adds value to the final weeks of the golf season

This time of year can feel like stealing for golfers.

As the fall wears on,

more and more golfers put their clubs into a winter-long hibernation. But those who stick it out are often treated to runs of mild, sunny  Central Oregon weather, better-

than-par conditions, and vibrant, colorful scenery only possible when the leaves turn.

Take the upcoming weekend. High temperatures are forecasted to reach the 60s — even inching toward 70 at times — and hardly a cloud is expected. Sounds like near-perfect golf weather.

Of course, at Black Butte Ranch, the conditions remain prime in large part because Black Butte Ranch has long made the decision to aerify later in the season than nearly every golf course in Central Oregon.

The greens at Big Meadow aren’t scheduled to be aerified until Monday, Oct. 15, which will close Big Meadow for the season. At Glaze Meadow, the aerification program isn’t scheduled until Oct. 23, leaving the greens untouched for another few weeks.

“The weather this time of year produces better golf conditions than some might believe,” said Jeff Fought, Black Butte Ranch’s director of golf. “We see a lot of our locals this time of year. I think they see it as a great value, especially when the weather is good and fall rates are in effect. Plus, the courses are a bit quieter than during the summer.”

The beauty is unmistakable, too. The aspen trees that dot Big Meadow and Glaze Meadow are awash in the vibrant color of season, with the Cascade Peaks gleaming white under a fresh blanket of white.

Best of all, Black Butte Ranch has dropped to its lowest rates of the season: $54 during primetime and $49 after 1 p.m. (and a hint to fall golfers, the early afternoon tee times are often the most coveted.) More than that, Cart rentals are just $10 per person through the end of the year.

In addition, Black Butte Ranch’s fall lodging and unlimited golf package starts at just $99 per person, per night. Visit us online to take advantage of special hot rates, too.

“Those who really know this area know that there is a ton of golf that can still be played from now until the season ends,” Fought said. “It really can be a special experience, and one not really available any other time of year.
