Black Butte Ranch is excited to welcome back Evan Sims as the Director of Tennis for the 2018 Summer Tennis Season. A Central Oregon native, Evan brings a lot of coaching and playing experience with him.
Evan began his coaching career while he was still in college, working at the Ashland Tennis and Fitness Club in Ashland, Oregon. While there, Evan was responsible for developing a junior tennis program and helped run a variety of adult clinics.
Following his college graduation in 2013, Evan became USPTA certified and secured a teaching position at the Bainbridge Athletic Club in Bainbridge, Washington, working alongside the Head Professional running clinics and teaching private lessons.
Soon after, Evan was given the title of Head Tennis Professional at the St. John’s Racquet Center in Portland, Oregon and was soon promoted to Facility Manager. In addition to his on-court responsibilities, Evan managed a staff of 10 people that included tennis professionals and administrative workers.
Evan spent last winter as a tennis professional at the Valley Club, a prestigious country club in Sun Valley, Idaho. There he taught a variety of adult and junior tennis classes, as well as private lessons, spin classes and pickle ball mixers.
As a player, Evan played two years for Santa Rosa Junior College, a perennial top performer in California. Eventually, Evan transferred to finish his degree at Southern Oregon University in Ashland, Oregon, where he earned his B.S. in Kinesiology.
In addition to teaching tennis, Evan is a proficient woodworker, mountain biker and rock climber. Evan will be directing both the tennis and pickleball program, and is available for private, group and hitting lessons for all ages and levels.
