Terry Anderson Memorial is a celebration for a dearly missed friend and so much more

Longtime Black Butte Ranch pro meant so much to so many, and a charity event is but one great way to honor him

Those who have spent any amount of time at Black Butte Ranch likely know by now that we lost one of our own over the winter. Terry Anderson was so much more than just a longtime Black Butte Ranch professional. For most who knew him, he was a friend, a mentor, and a legendary figure in Central Oregon golf who left an unmatched legacy and was loved by all who knew him.

The loss of Terry, who passed away in January, will be felt at Black Butte Ranch forever. But now is a time to celebrate all he meant to us. And his family and friends are doing this with The Terry Russell Anderson Memorial charity event and golf tournament, a 501(c)3 in addition to being a special series of memorial events in his honor, June 23 and 24.

All are invited to a formal memorial from 12:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 23, at the Universal Unitarian Church in Bend. There, the community will celebrate Terry’s legacy of charity and friendship, and guest speakers will share the story of Terry’s life and the positive effect he had on Central Oregon.

Perhaps nothing will speak to that legacy more than the Silent Auction and Evening Gathering event scheduled for 4 p.m. following the memorial. This will be held at Baltazar’s Seafood Restaurant, 1455 SW Knoll Ave. in Bend, entry is $50 per person and limited to the first 100 people. The event includes a semi-hosted bar, heavy appetizers, and entry into the silent auction. There will also be a microphone ready for more friends to tell stories about Terry. Tickets are still available.

The cause could hardly be a better one. This year’s charity proceeds will benefit The KIDS’ Center of Bend, a child abuse prevention, recovery, and treatment center for families and children — causes all deeply important to Terry. Donations for the silent auction, or direct donations, are still being accepted.

The First Annual Terry R. Anderson Golf Classic golf tournament, scheduled June 24 at Glaze Meadow, has already sold out. But this will become an annual event, hopefully for many years to come. If you want to be a part of this year’s tournament, a barbecue is open for nongolfers immediately following play at 2 p.m.  The cost will be $25 per person and raffle tickets are also on sale for $15 each.  All proceeds benefit The KIDS’ Center.

We can think of no better way to honor Terry than to taking up cause for those who have been less fortunate — something he spent a lifetime doing himself.
