Last Day of Glaze’ Tournament will end season with a bang

Two-person Stableford will mark a fun end to another fantastic golf season at Glaze Meadow

How best to say goodbye to the 2017 golf season? Sure, a golfer can squeeze as many rounds in as possible or frantically try to fix whatever bad habits developed over the season before the snow first flies. Those are never bad ideas.

But Black Butte Ranch’s “Last Day at Glaze” Shotgun tournament will once again offer another fun alternative to just another round when we send Glaze Meadow off for the season.

Glaze Meadow is scheduled to be the first of Black Butte Ranch’s two golf courses to close for the season. But before it does shut down, on Oct. 23, Black Butte Ranch wants to end Glaze Meadow’s golf season with a bang, or a shotgun to be more accurate.

Black Butte Ranch will end with a laid-back golf tournament on Sunday, Oct. 22, that is open to any golfer who wants to play. The two-person Stableford tournament will begin with a 10 a.m. shotgun, and include contest holes, an awards barbecue, and more.

And then once the sun sets, Glaze Meadow will close the door on its 2017 golf season.

“This has become a favorite tradition for us at Black Butte Ranch, and I can’t think of a better way to send out Glaze Meadow for the year,” says Jeff Fought, Black Butte Ranch’s director of golf. “The season-ender has always been a blast to play in, and the two-person Stableford should provide a low-key and enjoyable format to end the season on a high note. And it marks one last chance to play one of the best golf courses in Central Oregon, all at a rate that is significantly less than during the peak season.”

Some of Black Butte Ranch’s most memorable tournament moments have come during the season-ending event.

For instance, before Glaze Meadow was closed for nearly two seasons ahead of its $3.75 million renovation that was completed in 2012, Black Butte Ranch surprised tournament-goers with bagpipers who slowly made their way down the 18th fairway, passing the clubhouse, and down the first first tee before disappearing out of sight.

By the time they were out of earshot, Glaze Meadow was closed.

“That is such a fond memory for us,” Fought said. “What a cool experience to watch them disappear into the sunset.”

There probably won’t be bagpipers this year, but the event will surely end the season right.

Entry into the “Last Day at Glaze” is $60 per person and includes 18 holes of golf with cart.

Don’t miss a chance to stretch the golf season for at least one more spectacular day.
