Registration is still open as Black Butte Ranch brings out all the stops

If you have a friend who is a Black Butte Ranch homeowner, now is a good time to give him or her a little nudge. If you don’t have a homeowner buddy, now is the time to make one. And if you were thinking of becoming a homeowner, now might be a great time to pull the trigger.

Of course, if you are already a Black Butte Ranch homeowner you probably know what the excitement is all about. One of Black Butte Ranch’s oldest and most popular traditions tees off soon: The Homeowner Guest Invitational Golf Tournament.

Scheduled for Aug. 24-26, there is no other tradition at Black Butte Ranch quite like it. Dating back to the 1970s, the event is annually one of the most popular of the year. And for good reason.

“It is simply our greatest event,” says Jeff Fought, Black Butte Ranch’s director of golf. “The history runs deep, ever since the Ranch opened. And we want to make sure that the event continues to live on as one of our favorite traditions.”

The 36-hole tournament takes place over three days. It begins with a Friday evening horse race and Friday night appetizers and drinks.

The two-person main event then begins on Saturday at Glaze Meadow with a round of best ball, including hosted beverages. A putting tournament and lavish dinner under the big top set up on the Big Meadow driving range follows play on Saturday.

On Sunday at Big Meadow, a final round of scramble will determine the winner. Lunch and awards follow the round.

“The format is laid back and everyone involved always has an amazing time,” Fought says. “Food, drink, golf at two of the best courses in the region, not to mention Central Oregon in summer. What could be better?”

The courses should be in spectacular shape, too. Every year the maintenance crew goes all-out for the tournament participants. The crew will double cut and stripe the fairways. The greens will be double cut and rolled to give the putting surfaces a bit of a PGA Tour feel.

It’s carte blanche treatment fit for a professional golfer.

“It is going to be a spectacular time,” Fought says.

The registration deadline has been extended until Tuesday, Aug. 7. If you are a Black Butte Ranch homeowner, don’t miss this annual event. The cost is $800 per two-person team, and the price is all-inclusive.
