If not for the fiery oranges and yellows dotting the landscape around Black Butte Ranch, there would hardly be a hint of the season at Glaze Meadow. As prominent as the emerald green turf is throughout the golf course right now, though, there is no denying that this is indeed fall.

And no Central Oregon golf season lasts forever.

Glaze Meadow is in the final week of its golf season, concluding on Sunday with the annual Close the Course Shotgun & BBQ, a $50-per-person fun shamble event that is open to anyone who wants to play. After Sunday, Glaze Meadow will shut down for the season, allowing the Black Butte Ranch maintenance staff free reign to aerate the greens and prepare the golf course for winter.

Though the end of the season is inevitable, the final week of Glaze Meadow’s 2016 golf season should surpass expectations for late-season golf.

“Glaze Meadow is in fantastic shape right now,” said Jeff Fought, the director of golf at Black Butte Ranch. “The greens in particular are perfect.”

Perfect greens in mid-October? Sounds like a nice fall treat for golfers.

Glaze Meadow has had a memorable 2016 season, of course. The list of highlights includes hosting the 107th Oregon Amateur Championship in June, and the tournament (along with other factors) continues to offer ancillary benefits.

One such benefit? The greens remain in near-perfect condition, which has only been helped by mild fall weather.

“The greens are really rolling beautifully,” Fought said. “The condition of the course has really fostered a great ending to what has been a wonderful golf season.”

Big Meadow, which is closed through Sunday for aerification, will reopen Monday. But golfers who want to squeeze one more round at Glaze Meadow will not be disappointed.

There are just a few more days left this year to play Glaze Meadow, and the rates are some of the best of the season. Prime time rates at Glaze Meadow is now $54, which is $25 off peak rates. After 1 p.m., which could be the ideal time to play this time of year, the rate drops to just $49.
