Black Butte Sunny weekend, March 9, 2015

Bright blue sky. Greening grass. Sunscreen. Close to 70 degrees. Even sprinklers doing their jobs. Sounds like a nice May day at Black Butte Ranch.

Well, this is March, though a golfer would never guess it by playing a round at Big Meadow. All 18 holes are open at Big Meadow, and the course is in surprisingly good condition considering we are just a week into March.

In fact, Big Meadow was teeming on Monday with golfers looking to catch an early season round to break in the golf season. This writer included. You almost had to remind yourself that this was indeed still winter. I mean, this is what golf at Big Meadow looks like right now:

That last one is indeed a homeowner comfortably wearing shorts and a short-sleeved polo. Of course, there are some downsides to playing so early in the season. This too is what golf looks like in March:

What can any golfer expect so early in the golf season? But you have to accept the good with the bad this time of year. After all, just to be playing at all this time of year is a bonus. Or as one Black Butte Ranch homeowner said on a gorgeous Monday afternoon after a shanked sand wedge: “Hit another one. It’s March!”

Not a bad idea at all. If you haven’t already, it might be time to dust off the clubs and loosen up that rusty golf swing. Missed the weekend? No worries. The forecast looks pretty good again this weekend. And the price is right.

This weekend the public can play all 18 holes at Big Meadow for a mere $35, while Black Butte Ranch homeowners pay just $30. Nine holes can be played for $20. To book a tee time call 855-210-5305 or the Golf Shop at 541-595-1545.
