Casey King and George Mack Jr. each finish in the top 13

The golf professionals at Black Butte Ranch take pride in the way they play. And why not? It is the love of the game that got them in the golf business in the first place. And to teach golf it sure does help to be able to play the game yourself.

A rare opportunity to show off their playing prowess came recently at the 2018 Oregon Open Invitational, a 54-hole showdown of the top professionals and amateurs from around the Pacific Northwest. In a loaded field of nearly 200 golfers at Aspen Lakes Golf Course in Sisters, three of Black Butte Ranch’s four competing pros made the 36-hole cut.

Casey King, an Assistant Golf Professional at Black Butte Ranch, led the way. King shot an impressive 1-under-par 69-73-73—215 to finish in a tie for fourth place. The former Oregon State University standout golfer was in contention through all three rounds after he fired a 3-under-par 69 in the first round.

George Mack Jr., Black Butte Ranch’s director of instruction, wasn’t far behind, finishing the tournament at 3 over par and in a tie for 13th place. Mack, who has long been one of the top pros in the Northwest, shot a second-round 68 to help keep himself in contention.

Jeff Fought, Black Butte Ranch’s director of golf and among the top senior golfers in the region, finished in a tie for 55th place.

Tom Baker, Head Pro at Black Butte Ranch, and Caleb Taskinen, an amateur and Black Butte Ranch’s Assistant Superintendent, also both competed but narrowly missed the cut.

Black Butte Ranch’s staff of golf professionals can help any golfer play better, no matter the skill level. For more information on how to take a lesson from Casey, Jeff, George, Tom, or any of our Black Butte Ranch instructors, visit blackbutteranch.com/golf/lessons-and-instructions.
