Family golf nights a great way for locals to spend time with the kids
One of Black Butte Ranch’s most popular package deals every year is perhaps its simplest: the Black Butte Ranch family rate.
In fact, it would be difficult to find a better bargain anywhere. After 4 p.m. every day, two adults and two children (17 and under) or three juniors and one adult can play Glaze Meadow or Big Meadow for just $60. That is less than Black Butte Ranch’s prime time rate during the summer.
“Our family golf is off the charts,” says Jeff Fought, director of golf at Black Butte Ranch. “We host a lot of families every afternoon here at Black Butte Ranch.”
Black Butte Ranch being a favorite for families is hardly a new thing. All summer long, Black Butte Ranch is packed with families looking to share the joys of a summer vacation.
But with schools headed back into session in much of the state — Portland Public Schools begin classes on Thursday, Aug. 27 — many of the visiting families that take advantage of the family rate will be headed home.
That makes now a wonderful opportunity for Central Oregon families to take advantage of one of the best rates in the region. Daylight is still ample. The weather in Central Oregon typically remains gorgeous well past the end of September. And with lighter afternoon course traffic, getting in 18 in the afternoon is a relative breeze.
For those who love golf, there are other good reasons to play the game with the family. For one, research shows that parents with children who participate and engage in golf are able to play more golf themselves. And sharing activities with the whole family is important to kids’ mental health.
The best reason of all to play golf with the whole family is that it is fun. After all, isn’t that why every golfer takes up the game in the first place?
“One of my favorite things every day is to see the families come in here every afternoon and come play our golf courses,” Fought says. “It reminds me of when I was a kid and I would spend entire days with my family out on the golf course. Those are some of my fondest memories.”
