As the leaves burst into vibrant colors of orange, red, and purple experience it at a mountain resort in Oregon, Black Butte Ranch. We offer plenty of opportunities to go hike and see the changing trees up close and explore the wilderness. You do not even need to leave your vacation home. Just sit out on the deck and relax and take in the ever-changing surroundings.
A favorite pass time in Central Oregon is hiking. There is so much to see and do that you will want to see all of it. Our backyard is the 1.6 million acre Deschutes National Forest, creating endless opportunities to enjoy the great outdoors.
Black Butte Lockout is a scenic volcanic cone with two fire lookouts. Black Butte looks like a misplaced mountain but is packed with fantastic views. It is a moderately strenuous 3.8-mile hike to the panoramic summit, gaining 1,600 feet of elevation. From the top, you will have views of the fall colors painting a vibrant picture of Oregon. See the Sisters area and a panoramic view of Black Butte Ranch.
Proxy Falls is a great hike for families. The lava-rock and dirt trail is an easy 1.5-mile loop. Along the walk, you will encounter two distinctly different waterfall views nestled in the forest. At the bottom of the falls, it is possible to get close to feel the water. Proxy Falls is among Oregon’s most photographed waterfalls, so do not forget your camera.
Along your hikes collect leaves that are unique in color and shape. Later, press them into a journal. You can either leave the dry leaves in the journal or take them off, and an imprint of the leaf will be printed on the paper. Then, layer your pictures on top to create an original scrapbook. Write where you were and what you did next to the picture so you can remember your adventures at Black Butte Ranch.
If you do not want to hike, explore the Autumn scenery a different way. Grab your boots and go horseback riding. Professional wranglers at the ranch will guide you along the forested trails. This is an excellent way to get a different perspective of the forest. Enjoy the ride and take in the sites during your horseback adventure.
Another great way to get outdoors is to go biking. Our paved paths are a great place for families to take a ride together and enjoy the crisp air along the way. Off the Ranch, there are plenty biking opportunities. The Sisters Country is one of the premier mountain biking regions and is a silver level bicycle friendly community.
Whether you decide to hike, bike or horseback ride through the fall foliage there are plenty of opportunities at our mountain resort in Oregon. After a day of adventure and leaf-peeping cozy up to the fireplace and warm up. Black Butte Ranch offers a variety of vacation homes and condos based on your preferences, budget, and taste. You can even reserve a pet-friendly home so your four-legged friend can join in on the fun!
