Curtis Salgado

6p -
SOLD OUT

Curtis Salgado has been a Northwest music legend from his Portland base since his six year stint with Robert Cray as lead singer. Just recently Salgado was awarded the 2010 Soul Male Artist of the Year award at the Blues Music Awards in Memphis.

Salgado’s singing ability was recognized at an early age, when he came home from kindergarten one day with a note from his teacher pinned to his shirt saying that he could sing. He has was lead singer for Cray’s band and Santana. This itinerant bluesman can play the harmonica! Curtis_Salgado.JPG

Along the way, Salgado inspired John Belushi to create the Blues Brothers when Belushi was in Eugene, Oregon to film Animal House and caught Salgado’s act.  Belushi dedicated the first Blues Brothers Album to Salgado.

Salgado says, “Music is an offering and if you accept that offering, there’s a connection there, and that is what soul is all about.”

Salgado has a lot to celebrate. His new album “Clean Getaway” is a hit.  Salgado puts out a seamless mix of blues, soul and rock’n’roll all held together by the organic grooves of a world class musician and Salgado’s superlative singing.

A few years ago Salgado was diagnosed with liver cancer and was in need of a transplant. His friends (Steve Miller, Taj Mahal, Bonnie Raitt and Robert Cray) all came together to perform a benefit concert for Salgado to help pay his medical costs. With friends like that life’s pretty good. Salgado says, “To me, I’ve won the lottery. I’m alive! People are throwing so much love at me it’s embarrassing. It makes me humble.”
